Little long winded -
Was looking for a quick read, but this went into a lot of other subjects and minutia.

Too hippie -
I love my dog.
That being said, it's obvious that this book is intended for a certain kind of people: hippies and tree-huggers. My dog needs his discipline. He needs to be told what to do in a tone that he understands. Paul Owen's methods are way too soft... "make your dogs listen to new age music" yeah right... tsk tsk.
The funny thing is that the book's cover advertises with big fonts "THE COMPASSIONATE NONVIOLENT APPROACH..." What are you implying sir? That the other "dog whisperer" is violent? That he's not a compassionate guy? Maybe you think you're "special" or something, or maybe this is just marketing.
The other guy's book is WAY better anyway.
makes doggone sense -
One of several books that I bought for my daughter who trains dogs as a hobby. Ceasar gets into the pycology of the interaction of the dog and human "pack" in order for the reader to understand why a behavior is happening as well as solutions to the behaviors. my daughter loves the book(s) and I find them interesting

I got the Dog Whisperer from the library and liked it so much I wanted my own copy to keep! It is one of the best dog training books I've read (and I read a lot of them.)

A good book for those who think dogs are their children -
The problem with this type of approach is that your companion now becomes your ruler. Dogs don't have to be mistreated nor do they have to be coddled like royalty with bribes and adoring phrases. Save the treats and praise for tricks, not for establishing boundaries and basic rules of appropriate behavior.
