Good advice, weak science, bad kindle conversion. - 
The good: there's some great advice in here, and it's definitely worth reading.
The bad: It's mixed in with an awful lot of new-age crap, aromatherapy, and some distinctly non-scientific information.
If you're looking for a book that's going to cover what you need to know, and uses the best possible scientific methods to ensure results, then a lot of the advice is brilliant. However, it does veer *heavily* into the realms of quackery and pseudoscience, and for that I can't recommend it as heartily as I'd like. Bogus puppy massage therapy to "unlock" inner energies, aromatherapy, and other non-results-oriented stuff could have been left out; people who are prone to believing that stuff were already likely to believe it would help their puppy undo the damage caused in its previous life, or something - it doesn't belong in an honest book on advice for rearing a dog.
There is also the usual heavy-handed product and service placement, targeting new puppy owners with specific advertisements for specific toys, services, and products, including endless repeated references to the DVD.
It's unfortunate that they decorate such a good book with such things. Fortunately, it's mostly decoration, and other than some of the food advice (where it becomes very hard to tell actual advice from stoner hallucination) it's pretty easy to separate the wheat from the chaff.

What every new puppy owner needs to know. -
Pauls Owens offers wonderful advice for any new puppy owner in his book, The Puppy Whisperer. He gives detailed information about everything from potty training to to leash training, socialzation to diet and even learning games to play with the new addition to your family. The information in this book is what every puppy would want his new owner to know about him or her. One of the things that I like best about Owens approach is that he breaks the training down into components labled "kindergarten", "grade school", and "high school" to help guarantee sucess for both the puppy and the owner. The other thing that I like about the info in this book is that it is all based on positive reinforcement. I highly recommend it!
Very good book. Helpful 'right out of the gate' -
Full of very helpful tip and tricks, quickly became our authority for training our puppy. She is taking very quickly to training, and so far has been helping us keep her from tearing up the house, as we've heard other puppies can.

Not helpful to me. I seem to prefer Cesar Milan. But some may find it helpful. I guess everyone needs to try things to find out what works for them.

Puppy Whisperer not as good as I expected. -
This book has some good stuff in it but being a former dog owner, it was basics that I already knew. I was looking for a book with more substance, like Cesar's psychology...I actually was fooled by the title that it was a book of his. But I read it anyway and found that I disagreed on some training advice.
So for me it was just a 'reminder' book...nothing to gain knowledge.
