Disappointing - 
Very beautiful locals and photos, but the title is misleading. There is nothing one could really call a shed here. I thought I would find charming and refreshing hideaways ensconsed in former out buildings and structural after thoughts. Some were, like a transported chapel in the middle of a field, or the occasional playhouse. But most were guest houses ajoined to larger properties, or built for the purpose. The result is too slick and contrived to be a retreat, without bing the kind of escape from the world a person would seek. Sorry, a bit of bore.

Loved the book. I liked the fact that they looked at designs at not just garden sheds, but party houses, artists shacks, etc. The designs were great and they gave you lots of ideas on how to do these things yourself - of course some would require an architect - but.
Photographs were also wonderful.

I pull out this book when I need to escape. It is perfect balance of garden whimsey and architectural ingenuity. The pictures are truly eye candy for those of us who dream of a jewlery box retreat in the backyard.

When reading Stylish Sheds and Elegant Hideaways, I immediately thought of all the wonderfully inspired 18th and 19th century writers that had places that piqued their imaginations and senses. This book answers the 21st century's modern day writer's dream haven. The shed that is positioned steps away from the main house transports the visitor to another world. Modern day sheds become places of inspiration and creativity and allow one to separate from the rest of the world even for just a short time. These moments of tranquility are expressed in the sprawling photos across the pages of Debra Prinzing's book. She uses them to whet our appetite for the escape. I certainly recommend this book to people who are thinking of making an investment that will pay ten fold every day that you enter your own outdoor sanctuary.
